About the destination: Caracas, located in northern Venezuela, is the capital and largest city of Venezuela. The city is surrounded by majestic huge mountains overlooked by Mount Avila, an impressive mountain that separates the city from the Caribbean Sea. Beautiful green high slopes can be seen from all over the city. Plaza Bolivar is in the heart of the historic center of Caracas. In the center of the square there is an equestrian statue of Simon Bolivar. Around the square there are a number of historic buildings and nice examples of colonial architecture. The Cathedral is standing in the north-eastern corner of Plaza Bolívar. There are many side chapels and great religious art in the cathedral. Casa Amarilla is a beautiful colonial mansion standing on the west side of Plaza Bolívar. The Museo Sacro de Caracas and the Consejo Municipal are also located around the square. Some blocks north of Plaza Bolívar is the Panteón Nacional, the resting place of the Liberator of Venezuela, Simón Bolívar. La Casa Natal de Simon Bolivar, Bolivar's birthplace, is another major attraction located in the historic center. Along the northern side of Caracas is the mountain range Cordillera de Ávila. Here there is a national park with many hiking trails and a great diversity of wildlife.Caracas is located amidst of a spectacular setting and it is a fascinating city replete with excellent art, food and a bustling nightlife. It is also a perfect base from where to explore the beauty, the wilderness and the secrets of Venezuela.
