Madurai India

The city of Madurai is part of the Tamil Nadu State, and it serves as the administrative headquarters of the District of Madurai. It is the third largest city and the second largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu. Situated on the banks of the Vaigai River, it has been a significant settlement for two millennia and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The city boasts a rich cultural heritage, highlighted by landmarks such as the Meenakshi Amman Temple and the Tirumalai Nayak Palace. Another major attraction is the Tirukalyanam festival (also known as the Chittirai festival), which takes place in April-May over 10 days and draws one million visitors each year.
